building a freedom Garden
I spent the first half of Covid 19 at my moms house in the suburbs. When I moved in I looked around and realized she had not ONE plant. Coming from my jungle like apartment I knew I had to bring some green life into her home. My friend graciously gifted me a load of seeds before I left Brooklyn so I decided to attempt to grow food for the very first time! I searched Craigslist for planters because they are pricy & I love to reuse things. I ended up buying a load of terra-cotta planters from a woman right down the street from my mom’s.
Before I got to planting our resident farmer Shannon Lai, FaceTimed me and walked me through each seeds requirements. She told me which ones needed to be started inside & which could be planted directly. After much assurance from Shannon that I could indeed grow food I got to planting! Creating this small Freedom Garden has given my mom and I something to tend to, watch with excitement as little buds grow in & definitely have a laugh at our failures. More to come!
